Masaryk University and SOLARIS join the International Coalition for Science, Research, and Innovation in Ukraine

Masaryk University and the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS, partners in the RIFF – Research Infrastructures for the Future of Ukraine project, have just become members of the International Coalition for Science, Research, and Innovation in Ukraine.

December 2025

Already two of the RIFF partners have joined the International Coalition for Science, Research, and Innovation in Ukraine!

The Coalition, launched by the European Commission, serves as a high-level international platform bringing together European institutions, national governments, research infrastructures, funding agencies, and scientific organisations. Its aim is to coordinate international support for Ukraine’s research and innovation ecosystem, prevent fragmentation of assistance, and ensure that investments in science and technology contribute to Ukraine’s long-term recovery, resilience, and integration into the European Research Area.

For both Masaryk University and SOLARIS, joining the Coalition serves two complementary purposes 1) it reinforces European support for Ukrainian researchers, and 2) provides a structured platform for coordination and information exchange among relevant initiatives.

SOLARIS’s activities supporting Ukraine

The National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS focuses its contribution to Ukraine primarily through advanced research infrastructure activities, notably:

  • Implementing and providing open access to the Polish–Ukrainian Nano-X beamline, a state-of-the-art experimental station for synchrotron-based nano- and micro-scale X-ray analysis, developed in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and leading European partners within the LEAPS consortium, and serving as a shared cross-border research infrastructure supporting scientific excellence, knowledge exchange, and capacity building.

More information about SOLARIS’s activities in support of Ukraine is available on the SOLARIS website here.

Masaryk University’s activities supporting Ukraine

In addition to coordinating the RIFF project and joining the International Coalition for Science, Research, and Innovation in Ukraine, Masaryk University is actively involved in a range of initiatives aimed at supporting Ukrainian science and research:

  • Bringing together Czech universities, institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and other research organisations to form a coordinated national alliance supporting Ukraine’s research and innovation ambitions.
  • Encouraging the involvement of Czech public authorities, in particular the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, to strengthen cooperation at both the national level and within the Coalition.
  • Cooperating closely with the Czech Ukrainian Scientific Society, which represents the Ukrainian scientific diaspora in Czechia, to foster long-term, meaningful scientific Exchange.

The RIFF project wishes the Coalition and its new members a successful and productive cooperation!
