  • September 2025

    Kick-off meeting & Conference on Ukraine’s Reconstruction in Research & Higher Education

    The RIFF consortium & the community involved in the development of R&D in Ukraine met to discuss the current situation, ongoing projects, and how RIFF supports and complements existing activities.

  • October 2025 - February 2026

    Information Days (Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv)

    These events will introduce the concept of research infrastructures (RIs) as understood in the European Union, present opportunities available to Ukrainian research infrastructures under RIFF, and connect Ukrainian researchers and RI leaders across institutions to strengthen the local research community.

  • March 2026

    Open Call Published

    The Purpose of this open call is to gather the expressions of interest of the current and potential managers of the RIs across the 6 ESFRI (ENV, ENE, DIGIT, PSE, SSH, H&F) domains in Ukraine to have their RIs integrated into the Roadmap.

  • April 2026

    Study Visit in Brno, Czechia

    Training programme for a selected group of Ukrainian policy and institutional leaders. The purpose of the visit is to create a deeper understanding of the potential and organization of RI systems. 

  • May 2025

    Thematic Summit in Krakow, Poland

    The Thematic Summits will focus on fostering collaboration across scientific domains, promoting the integration of Ukrainian RIs into the ERA, and sustainable reconstruction efforts.

    The event in Krakow will focus on the following ESFRI domains:

    • Energy (ENE)
    • Social sciences & humanities (SSH)
    • Physical sciences & engineering (PSE).
  • Approximately: February 2026 - May 2026

    EMMRI Fellowship applications open for Ukrainian Research Infrastructure Managers

    The RIFF will provide funds for up to 4 Ukrainian participants to enroll in the UNIMIB’s part-time EMMRI programme in Milan.

    This Executive Master's programme offers experienced science professionals a general management qualification to advance their leadership skills for managing research infrastructures.

  • June 2026

    Thematic Summit in Brno, Czechia

    The Thematic Summits will focus on fostering collaboration across scientific domains, promoting the integration of Ukrainian RIs into the ERA, and sustainable reconstruction efforts.

    The event in Brno will focus on the following ESFRI domains:

    • Environment (ENV)
    • Data, computing and digital research infrastructures (DIGIT)
    • Health & food (H&F).
  • July 2026

    Study Visit in Krakow, Poland

    Training programme for a selected group of Ukrainian policy and institutional leaders. The purpose of the visit is to create a deeper understanding of the potential and organization of RI systems. 

  • October 2026 - January 2027

    3 Co-design Workshops

    The workshops will serve as a platform where policy-makers, funders, and the academic community will co-design and validate Ukrainian development priorities in the RI Roadmap development and ensure national recovery and EU research goals. 

    There will be 3 workshops, with focus on two ESFRI domains in each workshop.

  • January 2027

    Programme in Research Infrastructures Management Fundamentals

    This training programme combines self-paced learning, live webinars, and hybrid hands-on workshops, offering Ukrainian researchers and RI staff a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the RI.

    Its content will be shaped by a landscaping analysis to identify the areas most beneficial to the Ukrainian community.

  • March 2027

    Opening of the Call for Ukraine-ERA Fellowships

    As a part of this activity, ESFRI and other relevant EU/ERA RIs will host Ukrainian fellows. Applicants will negotiate their own programme with a hosting institution of their choice.

    This activity is opened to all RI staff – researchers, operators, managers and administrators.

  • May 2027

    Summer School in Brno, Czechia

    The objective of the summer schools is to develop the practical skills and needs of RI managers, like scientific project management, grant writing, data management, access policy development, reporting, developing a business case for RI and how to finance it, data, etc. There will also be a broad opportunity for networking.

  • June 2027

    1st Workshop

    To support the long-term sustainability of Ukraine’s RI Roadmap, two workshops will be held to strengthen the skills of Ukrainian decision-makers in managing research infrastructure systems.

    The first workshop will help policy-makers gain the knowledge needed to lead future roadmapping efforts independently.

  • November 2027

    Summer School in Krakow, Poland

    2nd Workshop

    To support the sustainability of Ukraine’s RI Roadmap, two workshops will be organised to help Ukrainian decision-makers build key skills for managing research infrastructure systems.

    The second workshop will focus on training leaders from Ukrainian universities and research institutes. It will cover procedures and structures needed to host RIs or nodes of distributed RIs, and provide insights into EU RI funding policies and the European RI landscape.

  • February 2028

    High-level Conference on Reconstruction of Research Infrastructures in Ukraine

    This conference, which will take place towards the very end of the project, will focus on promoting investment in Ukraine‘s RI recovery, the introduction of the RI Roadmap, and the presentation of international partnerships & best practices for sustainable RI developments.

  • August 2028

    National Day of the Research Infrastructures in Ukraine

    This event will present RIFF project results in Ukraine and draw attention to the agenda of the research infrastructures.
