Last week, three EU partners from the RIFF consortium - MUNI, INESC, and EFIS - visited their Ukrainian counterparts. One of the key activities during the visit was participation in the first Information Day held in Lviv. This was an important milestone for the RIFF project, as it established a first building block for the whole project.

During this event, we introduced the concept of RIs as understood in the EU, and presented opportunities available to Ukrainian RIs under RIFF.
Next stop was the Ivano-Frankivsk region, where they, among other activities, visited the research infrastructures at institutions such as Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University and Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas.
This was an important visit, as the RIFF project aims to develop the first-ever Research Infrastructure Roadmap for Ukraine. Mapping existing RIs and gathering insights directly from the RI heads represents a crucial step toward achieving this goal.
The final stop was Kyiv, where they met with RIFF partners (National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv Academic University, National Academy of Sciences Ukraine, Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics NASU, and National Research Foundation of Ukraine).
During this visit, they took the RIFF project planning further. They also visited research infrastructures of local universities, gained valuable insights from infrastructure staff, and established deeper connections with the RIFF partners.
They also took the opporunity to further discuss the future of the Ukrainian RI landscape with the Ministry of Education and Science and State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine.
On 22–23 October 2025, we presented the RIFF project at the RTI Summit 2025 in Copenhagen. We shared the project’s main goals and invited representatives from ESFRI and other European research infrastructures to take part in RIFF activities.
RIFF project is coming to Lviv through a series of events called Information Days, introducing the concept of research infrastructures, presenting opportunities and connecting Ukrainian researchers and infrastructure leaders across institutions.
